US Work Permit Processing – Update and Changes

Our friends at the Canadian Federation of Musicians have updated us on US work permit processing times and upcoming changes. Please spread the word!

Current processing time is 120 calendar days and can change at any time.

As of December 23, the USISC fees for processing applications are increasing from $325 to $460 US dollars. The last day you can submit to the CFM under the old fee structure is December 19, 2016.

Folk Music Canada Announces Showcases and Business Mission at the 2016 Americana Music Conference

Folk Music Canada is  thrilled to announce the line up for the #FMCTopNotch showcase to be presented as part of the official programming for AmericanaFest on Friday, September 23, and its business mission within the concurrent Americana Music conference.

These activities will be part of the 17th Annual Americana Music Festival & Conference, which gathers thousands of artists, fans and industry professionals from all over the world from September 20 to 25 in Nashville, TN and includes more than 200 performances.    New  in 2016, Folk Music Canada is partnering with CIMA to organize 100 business to business meetings between Canadian music entrepreneurs and key Americana industry members, as well as a networking reception. Participating Canadian businesses  include: Balsam Pier Music, Black Hen Music, Borealis Records, Mavens Music, Meta4Music.

Announcing FolkNorth – A New Showcasing and Industry Event

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 1.51.38 PMFolk Music Canada will be launching a new national showcase and industry event, to be held in Toronto from November 30 to December 3, 2016.  Called FolkNorth, the gathering will spotlight export showcases, foster Canadian folk industry and provide professional development to current and future generations of folk presenters and leaders.

Anchored in the goal of expanding market opportunities for the Canadian folk industry, and spotlighting the strength of Canadian folk talent on a world stage,  FolkNorth will showcase 24 of Canada’s best folk acts.  The event will also include showcases featuring 8 international artists as part of reciprocal partnerships with foreign music organizations destined to increase international trade relationships. To complement the showcasing activities, FolkNorth will invite 40 ‘buyer’ delegates to attend the event, and organize over 500 B2B meetings to foster market development.

Folk Music Ontario Applications Open

Panels, workshops, youth program, awards, export development, networking, and music, music, music! The 2016 Folk Music Ontario conference will take place October 20-23, 2016 at the Delta Ottawa City Centre.  Earlybird registration, official showcase and Songs from the Heart applications are open!

Deadline for official/family showcase and Songs from the Heart applications is: May 31, 2016
