Folk Music Canada Announces the Second Edition of FolkNorth

Folk Music Canada is proud to present the second edition of FolkNorth; an export-focused showcase and industry event that will take place in Toronto from December 1-4, 2017.

Anchored in the goal of expanding market opportunities for the Canadian folk industry and spotlighting the strength of Canadian folk talent on a world stage, FolkNorth will shine the spotlight on some of Canada’s brightest folk acts, along with a few international ones. It will also bring together export delegates from the United States, the United Kingdom, and many more key industry delegates from Canada. Check out confirmed delegates HERE.

The four-day event will be held at the Sheraton Centre Hotel, Toronto, as well as showcases taking place Friday and Saturday nights at The Supermarket and Sunday night at Adelaide Hall, both venues in Toronto. Designed to be small in scope, the weekend focuses on offering high-level opportunities to established Canadian artists, agents, managers, music supervisors and publicists, as well as professional development and networking opportunities for the Canadian folk presenting community.

“The goal of FolkNorth is to get more Canadian folk musicians out into the international market. There is such a wealth of talent in our country and we want to share that. We also want to create an event that is intimate and provides quality networking opportunities where both artists and delegates can forge lasting relationships,” says Shoshona Kish, President of Folk Music Canada.

More about our Export Development Program at Folk Alliance 2013 / À propos de notre programme de développement d’exportation à Folk Alliance 2013

February 18th, 2013

Folk Music Canada works in a myriad of ways to help strengthen Canadian folk music. This year we have been paying particular attention to export development  – helping Canadian folk musicians get their music into new markets.

After many months of planning, market research and intelligence gathering, Folk Music Canada will host the Export Development Program in partnership with the 2013 Folk Alliance, to be held in Toronto from February 20-24, 2013.

The Export Development Program will help Canadian folk musicians and businesses access new markets in the UK, USA, and Germany by bringing more than 30 international delegates (festivals, presenters, agents, publicists etc) to Folk Alliance.

As part of the Export Development Program, delegates will be matched with a selection of export-ready Canadian artists for one-on-one meetings, mentoring and networking receptions.   In addition to these closed events, the 30 delegates will be available throughout the conference as they attend networking events, and lead panels focusing on export topics such as immigration, international touring and much more.

As well, through our two showcase suites (room 1161 and 1281) we’ll be featuring some of the best export-ready folk talent that Canada has to offer.
